Are you thinking about going to nail tech school but you're not sure where to start? Or maybe you're thinking about switching careers and you're intimidated because you think that everyone in class will be younger and know more than you. Well I have great news for you! Going to nail school can be an exciting and fun time for women and men of all ages, and it's not nearly as difficult as you think.
First, if you look at a couple of different nail tech or cosmetology schools, you will quickly realize that you will not be the only "adult" in class. In fact, many successful nail technicians start in the industry later in life. Even if you are the oldest student in your class, most likely you will not be the oldest student ever to attend nail school at your chosen academy. When you are older you take your courses more seriously, study harder, and focus more intently on being the best you can be. This is going to set you apart from others in your nail school, and in fact will help you build a clientele because clients will recognize how much effort you have put into honing your skills and providing great service.
Second, you do not have to be artistic or even creative in order to go to nail school. Maybe you like the look of a beautiful set of nails, or maybe you love to pamper people and help them solve their problems. Applying a good set of nail enhancements requires patience and practice, not necessarily artistic ability. If you have a desire to provide someone with a great set of nails they can be proud of, you will eventually learn to do so. You do not have to provide fancy nail art or airbrushing to build up a loyal clientele. Providing a great set of pink and white nails is good enough to make a great income doing nails. You can also perform excellent manicures and pedicures and keep people coming back for more.
Finally, and probably most importantly, the biggest factor in becoming a great nail tech is commitment. If you decide that you want to go to nail tech school, you will go and do well and it won't matter which school you go to, what the other students are like, or if you were the oldest in your class. If you have a passion for this industry, nail school will be what you make of it. Once you have gone to school and gotten all of your required hours and passed the state board exam, no one can take that away from you. Nail school can be exciting, and making the commitment and accomplishing your goal of a nail tech license will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
I went to nail tech school 6 years ago. I had already finished college and was actually working on a masters' degree when I decided that I would try nail school. I had never done anything like it before, in fact, nail school was something that my parents never would have accepted if I had decided to go straight out of college. So now that I was old enough to decide what I wanted to do without worrying about what others thought, I went. Having a career as a nail tech has changed the course of my life and I wouldn't give up this experience for anything.
